Do the thing

I recently updated my Instagram header line to say:

Get Real l Find Purpose l DO THE THING

What do I mean by DO THE THING?

I’m talking about the thing that you know you want to do. That whisper that I’ve mentioned before. I’m convinced that most of us have something in our head that is pretty persistent.

Something we think we’ve missed out on or that we’d really like to do, maybe a change we’d like to make in our life. Usually, its been floating about up there for quite some time, but we never dare to even say it out loud.

We’ve decided that it’s too grand of a vision for ourselves, that we don’t deserve the luxury, or that it would make someone else uncomfortable.

For a long time, we’ve told ourselves… maybe someday. Or we’ve waited patiently for the pull of that thing to wane.

Approaching 50, the maybe someday begins to feel far less likely and we ever so slowly turn the wishful thinking into a regret that It’s too late.

THAT is the THING that I want to help women to do. Because usually we’ve not done these things in service to others.

Because we don’t feel worthy or deserving of the things that would make us most happy. Or because we were never taught that we can feel some fear and doubt, and walk straight into the light of a dream anyway.

That we can mess it up, bear the judgement of others, and be (even better than) ‘okay’

We’re never taught that the deepest dream, is a piece of who we are designed to be. Or that an inner knowing is safest, surest guidance we can ever ask for.

Find a way to DO THE THING in some shape or form. Think of it not as an indulgent gift to yourself, but as an inevitable unfolding of your life as it was meant to be.
